Prof. Le Nguyen Quoc Khanh
Dr. Khanh is an Assistant Professor with the Professional Master Program in Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, College of Medicine, Taipei Medical University, Taiwan.
This course introduces the fundamentals of applying artificial intelligence (AI) in bioinformatics. You’ll explore how AI, machine learning (ML), deep learning, and natural language processing (NLP) are used to design and discover drugs and model complex biological systems. You’ll learn how to collect, analyse, and visualise bioinformatics data from public resources, and apply AI to interpret biological processes. The course covers AI applications such as genome sequencing, protein function prediction, and gene expression analysis, helping you understand how AI provides statistical insights in research. You’ll also develop practical skills in data analytics, feature engineering, and feature learning, building a toolkit for bioinformatics work. At the end, you’ll apply your knowledge to organise and summarise data results suitable for publication, preparing you to use AI effectively in real-world bioinformatics research. This course is a prerequisite for the follow-up course, AI and Bioinformatics: Genomic Data Analysis.
Total learning hours of 2 hours (Total length of the courses video 1 hours 52 minutes)
1. Collect and explore bioinformatics data from public resources
2. Apply different AI models in bioinformatics data to understand a variety of biological processes
3. Develop a standard framework for AI-based bioinformatics study that can be applied to different datasets
4. Summarise and report the results to generate a bioinformatics paper for publication purpose
This course is designed for any student, biologist, or researcher who would like to learn the basics of using AI to study bioinformatics data. You do not need any experience in AI, bioinformatics, or programming.
